Description

This hearty and flavorful Ground Beef and Cabbage Skillet is a simple one-pan meal perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner. With lean ground beef, tender cabbage, and savory seasonings, it’s a wholesome dish the whole family will love!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
  • 2 cans (14.5 ounces each) diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Sauté the Onion – Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Brown the Ground Beef – Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up, until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Season the Mixture – Stir in garlic powder, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the flavors.
  • Add Cabbage and Tomatoes – Stir in the chopped cabbage and pour in the diced tomatoes with their juice. Combine everything well.
  • Simmer – Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
  • Adjust and Serve – Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. Serve hot on its own or over rice, with mashed potatoes, or with crusty bread.

Notes

  • For added spice, increase the red pepper flakes.
  • Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving for extra flavor.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat easily.
