Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 small head of cabbage, chopped
- 2 cans (14.5 ounces each) diced tomatoes with juice
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Sauté the Onion – Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Brown the Ground Beef – Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up, until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Season the Mixture – Stir in garlic powder, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the flavors.
- Add Cabbage and Tomatoes – Stir in the chopped cabbage and pour in the diced tomatoes with their juice. Combine everything well.
- Simmer – Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.
- Adjust and Serve – Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. Serve hot on its own or over rice, with mashed potatoes, or with crusty bread.
Notes
- For added spice, increase the red pepper flakes.
