These Cheesy Thumbprint Appetizers with Hot Pepper Jelly are a delightful blend of savory and sweet, making them a perfect bite-sized snack for any occasion. With sharp cheddar cheese, a buttery base, and a dollop of spicy-sweet jelly, these appetizers will surely be a hit at your next gathering. They are simple to prepare, but they look and taste like something special—just the right combination of elegant and easy. Perfect for a party, a holiday spread, or any time you want to impress your guests!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 cup hot pepper jelly

  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • In a large bowl, mix the softened butter and shredded cheddar cheese until smooth.

  • Add the flour, salt, and black pepper, and continue mixing until the dough comes together.

  • Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each ball.

  • Press your thumb gently into the center of each ball to create a shallow indent.

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  • Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Then, spoon about 1/2 teaspoon of hot pepper jelly into the center of each thumbprint.

  • Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For added texture, consider sprinkling crushed nuts on top before baking.

  • If you’re making these ahead of time, freeze the dough balls and bake them fresh when needed.

  • These can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the oven to restore their texture.
